Mass Balance
A mass balance (or material balance) is the accounting of material entering and leaving a system. Based on the principle that physical matter can neither be created or destroyed, the mass inputs of a process, industry or region balance the mass as outputs; products, emissions and waste. A mass balance therefore is a detailed analysis of resource use against outputs and can provide a thorough method for analysing resource flow.
