Green Dragon Environmental Management Standard Level Five
The Green Dragon Standard Level Five involves formally addressing the issue of continual environmental improvements and reporting publicly on the achievement of continual improvement.
In order to achieve Level Five, an applicant must have achieved all the requirements of Levels One, Two, Three and Four in addition to the requirements set down in Level Five itself.
There are five elements to this fifth and final level of the Green Dragon Standard. These elements build on the steps taken in previous levels to complete a comprehensive formal environmental management system (EMS). Organisations achieving Level Five may be successful in achieving ISO 14001 or EMAS.
The elements of Level Five include:
Internal Audit Programme
The organisation should periodically audit all elements of the EMS to ensure it remains effective
Management Review
Formalising the reviews carried out in previous levels, the organisation should conduct a periodic comprehensive review of the EMS.
Carbon Reduction
Targets should be set to reduce Carbon Dioxide released by the organisation's energy and transport requirements.
Indirect Environmental Impacts
The organisation should take action to minimise the indirect impact on the environment of their operations, such as the impacts of employees, suppliers and contractors.
Environmental Report
The organisation must publish a comprehensive report on their environmental activities and performance.
Organisations achieving Level Five of the standard will receive a certificate and the Green Dragon Plaque. In recognition of reaching these advanced stages of environmental management, organisations can also display the Green Dragon Logo on stationery and marketing materials. Company details, Environmental Policy, Objectives & Targets, Carbon Dioxide released and the Environmental Report will be registered on the Green Dragon website www.greendragonems.com.
