Facts and Questions

The following facts may encourage you to look closer at transportation within your business.

  • The cost of traffic jams to British business is £20 billion every year. 
  • There have been significant increases in the cost of diesel reaching £1 per litre.
  • Congestion levels are forecast to grow by between 11 and 20 per cent over the next ten years.
  • Transport now accounts for 26 per cent of emissions in the UK and is the fastest growing source of climate change gases.

Ask yourself the following questions:

  • Are you aware of the number of miles your vehicles travel and their associated costs?
  • Are staff aware of the public transport links to your office/site and could these be improved? 
  • What are the costs of providing and maintaining parking spaces (for your employees)?
  • If office staff regularly meet with other regional/national offices could web based or audio/tele-conferencing be undertaken as an alternative?
  • Could you start using biodiesel or a percentage of biodiesel in your vehicles?
  • What is the load factor of your vans/lorries and could this be increased?
