NISP

A new waste project delivered by ARENA Network in partnership
with the Wales Environment Trust.

Do YOU have waste that is no longer of use to you?
Would YOU like to reduce your disposal costs?
“Your waste could be someone’s valuable raw material!”

How we can help:

  • Create networking opportunities
  • Improve resource efficiency
  • Facilitate the development of new products and markets

The potential benefits:

  • Generating savings for your company
  • Diverting waste materials from landfill
  • Making your by-products someone’s valued raw material
  • Creating and safeguarding jobs

In 2006 ARENA Network launched the Materials Action Programme in Wales a new waste programme designed to create new opportunities in Wales by diverting waste from landfill.  The initiative, which is being delivered in partnership with the Wales Environment Trust, was launched at the Welsh Assembly in Cardiff by the Environment Minister Carwyn Jones.

Group

NISP encourages companies and the public sector to look outside their own physical and business sector boundaries for opportunities to exchange wastes or materials and thereby reduce costs.  The programme is free for all organisations, regardless of size, turnover or location within Wales and, although it is mainly concerned with diverting waste from landfill, it is extended to include energy, water, increasing production capacity, sourcing land, assets, logistics, and providing specialist expertise.

Increasing legislation, such as the European Landfill Directive, End of Life Vehicle Directive, the WEE Directive, IPC and IPPC, is putting an increasing onus on industry to protect the environment.  Furthermore, the costs of waste disposal, particularly to landfill, are increasing requiring businesses to find alternative solutions for their long and short term waste streams.

The NISP programme will facilitate greater interaction and co-operation within different sectors of the business community. The willingness and co-operation of the participants from a broad and diverse range of industries can create the environmental and social benefits that arise from resource efficiencies, environmental improvements and waste reduction.

NISP is about connecting industries and creating opportunities.
